Abby Portnoy is a dedicated therapist at SCRC who is passionate about helping individuals battling addiction and trauma. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a concentration in addiction from Colorado State University and her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling form the University of San Diego.
Drawing on extensive expertise in addiction therapy and trauma-informed care, Abby utilizes EMDR as a therapeutic modality that facilitates the rapid processing and healing of traumatic events from the past that may contribute to PTSD and negative self beliefs. She also utilizes CBT, DBT, ACT, and IFS to heal long term patterns of anxiety, depression, and addiction. Through a collaborative process of developing mutual trust and respect, she believes that hope can be restored and each individual has the ability to reach their full potential. Inspired by the healing power of Southern California’s coastal environment, Abby encourages clients to embrace activities promoting well being such as beach visits and mindfulness practices. She aims to help you find how to live a happier and healthier lifestyle.
In her free time, Abby enjoys going to the beach, hiking, and enjoying the Southern California lifestyle.
